Highlights from 2015 Jan-May

Welcome to the highlights from the first half of our year. It’s a image-led whizz through what was an extremely busy year!

In October 2015 we celebrated our 10th anniversary of being at the Hall. It’s been quite a journey from turning the 400-year-old Hall into a 12 bedroom country house stately experience. But more on that story in the second part of our blog… Here’s what we got up to from January to May.

January saw the launch of The Dining Room at Goldsborough Hall. Friends, supporters, suppliers along with dignitaries, MPs and members of the press were treated to a regal reception at the launch of fine dining at the Hall. Invited guests got of glimpse of the offering at our 17th century stately home, once home to HRH Princess Mary.  Head chef Paul Richardson-Mackie offered a taste of things to come with a selection of delicious sweet and savoury canapés. The Dining Room at Goldsborough Hall is available daily, pre-booking essential.

At last, we started to emerge out of winter, and held two very successful snowdrop days. More than 250 people laced up their walking boots and braved the cold to see the tens of thousands of snowdrops in the woods at Goldsborough. Many visitors had heard owner Clare Oglesby on Radio York talking about the snowdrops – and we got a lovely mention in Country Life too. We are back open for Snowdrops on Saturday 13th February and Sunday 21st February 2016. Admission £5, children free.

Valentine’s Day: 14th February

It’s definitely our favourite weekend of the year – full of romance, champagne & strawberries, sumptuous dining, late night drinks by the crackling log fire…

In February we also celebrated  National Yorkshire Pudding Day by brunching on a Yorkshire pud along with raspberry coulis, golden syrup and chocolate & hazelnut sauce and, of course, made our own GH pancakes on Pancake Day.

We were delighted, once again, to host The Wedding Affair at Goldsborough Hall in March. We love working with the team at The Wedding Affair – and this year’s fair surpassed all the others! The callibre of exhibitors was second to none and plenty of future bride and grooms got a chance to look round our lovely venue and meet the suppliers.

My thanks to Jamie Sia Photography for The Wedding Affair’s images. Pictured below are just a few of the suppliers including Yorkshire Wedding Cars, Bridal Rogue Gallery, Choose Cake, Twisted Willow, Noble Fine Art and Pamela Dunn.

Our 2016 Wedding Affair Fair is on 28th February 2016 – free entry.

Afternoon tea at Goldsborough Hall is extremely popular especially on Mother’s Day.  Our Spring afternoon tea went down very well – and Yorkshire Life agreed,  putting us in the top 6 best afternoon teas as a ‘right Royal location’! We were also delighted with a fabulous review in Northside magazine on our new dining experience.

Weddings at Goldsborough Hall

Love among the snowdrops! March saw the start of our wedding season. This amazing image of a bride and groom was taken by Chris Milner Photography who captured the scene beautifully.

We pride ourselves on keeping the gardens at Goldsborough Hall immaculate no matter the season.

There’s always a great spot for wedding photographs even in the depths of winter!

It was a really wet spring but we were pleased to see a host of daffodils making a big show in the famous Royal Lime Tree Walk. Our gardens were open to the public for the National Garden Scheme this month when more than 400 visitors enjoyed a walk round the landscaped grounds topped off with tea and scones in the hall. Our next Spring NGS opening is on Sunday 10th April 2016.

Cooking demos

Head chef Paul Richardson-Mackie was interviewed by Alex Cann from Stray FM in the kitchens at Goldsborough Hall for their DAB Food & Drink show. Paul cooked five spiced duck breast, confit leg and rhubarb croquette, burnt onions & kale – delicious!

Paul was also demonstrating alongside Rudding Park’s Steph Moon at the Harrogate Spring Flower show in the from Plot to Pot.

We were thrilled and delighted to have been awarded an AA rosette for culinary excellence at The Dining Room at Goldsborough Hall. This was a great achievement for the Hall as well as our head chef and his team. The AA inspectors also confirmed our 5 gold star status for accommodation for the 7th year running. Pictured is owner Mark Oglesby with head chef Paul Richardson-Mackie.

Well done!

New Dower House Rooms

May also saw the completion of six new rooms in the Dower House, the 1800s wing of the Hall.

Each room has been beautifully furnished to the highest standard, with king-sized beds, en-suite bathrooms and 50in plasma TVs.

Two of the new rooms are classed as Luxury and are perfect for that extra special stay. They have wonderful views across the landscaped gardens, catching all the afternoon sun.

Two are Deluxe rooms, complete with oak-beam pitched ceilings and his and her sinks.

Our final two rooms are called Standards, but are anything but standard! They have king-sized beds, power showers and 50in TVs.

You can find out more about our new rooms on our website.

Our thanks to Peter Boyd Photography for the superb images of the new rooms.

And lastly for May, we were thrilled that the Hall became a cover star, being featured on the front page of Northside magazine!
